About Bedwyn Trains Passenger Group

The Bedwyn Trains Passenger Group was set up in 2006 to fight the proposed cuts to our service. Before the proposed cuts we had 20 eastbound trains and 19 back and nothing to or from the west. The proposal was to reduce us to 14 eastbound trains and 14 back. With all our campaigning we have increased the service to 22 out and 22 back including services to and from the west.

We are Steve Smith, Bill Wells, Karina Nicholson, Margaret Burden, Fionna Filipiak and David Haynes.

We meet regularly as a group and six monthly with First Great Western. If you are interested in joining us, or wish to comment on the train service, then please email us at:

We are funded by annual donations from Great Bedwyn Parish Council and Little Bedwyn Parish Council. We have also had a number of one off donations from passengers and a one off donation from First Great Western of £50.

Our Regular Activities Are:

  • Promotion of our service in and around the Bedwyn and Marlborough area.
  • Delivering of timetables, on the three annual timetable change points, to every house in Great Bedwyn, Little Bedwyn, Chisbury, Crofton and St Katherines.
  • Keeping local shops, libraries and Post Offices stocked with timetables.
  • Reporting complaints, and following them up, with First Great Western.
  • Monitoring passenger numbers and comparing them with published figures of ticket sales.
  • Monitoring timetables changes and reporting any changes, which causes connectivity problems with the Marlborough bus link, to Wiltshire Council. This usually meets with success.
  • Tidying and painting the station. We hold an annual station cleanup day.
  • Keeping the notice boards, at the station and village centre, updated with useful information.
  • Writing a monthly article for The Parish News to promote the service and supply useful information.
  • Working with the First Great Western Operational Publications department on the timetable layout.
  • Reporting of station faults to First Great Western.
  • Attending ad hoc meetings with First Great Western, Rail Future, Wiltshire Council etc.
